The next morning was decorated with dew drops and scattered nature debris from the storm. The sun shined brightly causing everything to sparkle. The light shined in Nassor’s eyes causing him to stir from his sleep. Missy snuggled up to him during the night so he had to carefully slip away from her.

The first thing he saw when he stepped outside was the bright glittering lake, adjusting his eyes he could see buildings on the other side of the lake. It took him a moment to realize it was the summer camp. His heart jumped- this was wonderful, they could finally get out of the forest! He was about to run in and tell Missy but he stopped just before he flung open the door.

~“We’re never going to see each other again once this week is over…"~

There were only a few days left, but with this chaos there was no doubt in his mind that their parents would take them home as soon as the stepped foot back in camp.

With a heavy sigh, he crept back inside to find Missy just waking up. “Good morning!” she cheerfully greeted.

“Morning,” he replied.

“What’s out there?”

“The lake.”

“The lake? You mean the one next to camp?”

“Yes,” he said with an exhausted sigh.

Missy jumped for joy, “We’re saved!”

“Yeah…” he said unenthusiastically.

“What’s wrong?” she asked. “We can get out of here.”

“I know…” he said, “Let’s just… take our time, alright? I’m just a bit worn-out.”
“Alright!” Missy said with a smile.

They relaxed and ate some food before setting off to get around the lake. There was bridge somewhere up the river that they could cross.

Nassor walked slowly behind Missy. It’s true he was tired, but there was a part of him that didn’t want to separate from Missy. He suddenly stopped when Missy cut him off by holding out her hand. He gave her a quizzical look.

“Take my hand,” she squeaked.

“I’m fine,” he said.

“Come on,” she said with a smile, “You pulled me along, now it’s my turn.”

“I don’t need to be ‘pulled’ along,” he replied with a bit of a snarky tone. “But... I appreciate the gesture.” He kindly took her hand and walked with her.

When they stepped into camp, they were swarmed by counselors. Apparently they were the last ones missing.

“What happened to your head?” Toshiaki asked Nassor.

“I tripped and fell on a rock,” Nassor hissed.

“Well we’re glad to you guys back safely,” said Elsa.

As Nassor predicted, soon the parents had mobbed the camp. A lot of them were outraged, and right fully so, while others just smothered their children with love. The counselors apologized profusely. One by one the kids were getting taken away from the camp by their parents.

“I can’t wait to get away from this place,” said Toshiaki, “I don’t want to deal with anything camping related ever again after this!”

“I can’t believe we wasted our summer here,” said Bob.

“Well soon we’ll be out of here,” said Victor, “We’ll never have to see this place again.”
Nassor looked at Missy from the corner of his eye, knowing she was moving away. She looked a bit sad, but she was doing her best to remain composed.

The sound of barking soon caught their attention. They looked to find Sparky and Persephone running over to them. Victor and Elsa greeted their companions with open arms. That’s when their group began to shrink.

First it was Victor and Elsa, then Josie (giving Toshiaki a kiss on the cheek before parting), then Bob, Edger, and Weird Girl. Missy was next and she was quite hesitant. She said her good-byes, but she couldn’t bring herself to leave- at least not without saying what she wanted to say but she was finding it hard to speak up.

She looked at Nassor like a worried puppy, and after countless attempts to speak she just resorted to hugging him. Nassor knew what she was trying to get across, and he complied by hugging her back before her parents dragged her away.

“So it’s just you and me now eh?” said Toshiaki.

“I’m sure your family will be here any minute,” Nassor replied.

“I’m sure your pare- er… I mean sister will be here soon too.”

Nassor kind of glared at him, for almost saying the p-word. After all this time, he figured that he would have learned to avoid it. But he let it slide. “I’m surprised she wasn’t here already,” said Nassor, “You know how she gets.”

“Yeah…” Toshiaki paused for a moment before speaking again, “So you liked that girl?”

“Who, Missy?” Nassor replied, “Well, I mean she needed a friend, or something, and I figured why not.”

Toshiaki nodded, pretending to believe Nassor’s claim that he just liked Missy as a friend. “Sucks that you’re probably never going to see her again…”

Nassor sighed, “Don’t remind me…”

.

It had been a week since the children of New Holland returned from the camp disaster and it was back to the normal routine of enjoying a small town summer before school started back up, which was in a few weeks.

While the rest of New Holland played, Nassor found it more enjoyable to simply relax at home reading a good book. He was in the middle of reading Hamlet when the obnoxious sound of a truck disrupted him. Shutting the book, he went to go see what all the ruckus was.
“Oh good you’re out of your room,” said his sister Patricia when he came down stairs.

“I just wanted to see what all the commotion was,” he replied peering out the window.

“It’s probably our new neighbors,” she said heading for the door, “I was going to go meet them, if you’d like to join me.”

“I’ll stay here if you don’t mind. I don’t feel like-huh?” His words were cut short when he saw a familiar face.

Patricia had to jump back as Nassor suddenly bolted out the door. Patricia calmly walked out the door behind him, “And he wanted to stay inside.”

Nassor had ran across the street, disregarding looking both ways before crossing, to get to his new neighbors. “Missy!” he said coming to a stop. Everything was still for a moment as he waited for her to turn around.

She finally looked, and they stood there for a moment staring at one another.
Missy smiled the biggest smile she could and giggled a bit, “I knew I recognized that voice!”
